POETIC IMAGES / METAPHORS

are the manifestation/translation of mental images into experiences available to others

The nature of these manifestations can vary: our imagination can give birth to visual artworks, poems, objects, architecture. novels, machines, computer programs ...

Any human creation is "poetic" in as much at it is necessarily an approximation to that initial impulse in our minds, and because they all concern beauty.

Poets are ever the heralds of new ways of seeing.
There is much to learn from their inquiries into the nature of the image
Poetry is written by poetic images, not by individual words

When I am working on a problem, I never think about beauty but when I have finished, if the solution is not beautiful, I know it is wrong.
a roaring motor car which seems to run on machine-gun fire, is more beautiful than the Victory of Samothrace
mathematics, rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty
